Disclosure: We have been provided complimentary tickets to KC Beer Fest in exchange for writing this post. Opinions are my own.
Can anyone remember the old days of the KC Beer Fest at Legends in KCK? The heat. The exposure. The drive. The top of the parking garage seemed much, much closer to the sun. Well, KC Beer Fest has been in the capable hands of the Flying Saucer since 2014. The parking garage days are long gone. And the fun of a fall craft beer party in the middle of downtown Kansas City is back.
KC Beer Fest will take over Grand Blvd from 13th to 14th Streets, between the Sprint Center and Power and Light, this Saturday, September 9. More than 70 breweries will be pouring over 200 beers (including some rarities).
Like many other beer festivals in town, you can purchase both general admission and VIP tickets. VIPs get in an hour early, get a free t-shirt, have access to a VIP-only hospitality area with complementary food. Unlike most other VIP areas, these have their own bathrooms, which might be the most VIP thing at a beer festival. All ticket holders will receive the ubiquitous tasting glass with access to all the beers.
This year, a portion of all ticket sales will go to our friends at Drink Local Think Global, which provides safe drinking water to areas without access to it in Africa. They focus their fundraising efforts with craft beer and craft breweries, and this event is no different. DLTG will have a table at KC Beer Fest if you want to give more. (There’s also an ad to the right that will lead you to their website.)
Being downtown, there are plenty of ways of getting to and from the event safely. Take the bus. Uber yourself down there. Ride the streetcar! Get a room. Always have a plan to get home before you leave. Sunscreen is probably a good idea as well. Don’t dive into the beer on an empty stomach. You know, #beerprepared.
Tickets are on sale now for KC Beer Fest. General Admission tickets can be yours for $40 (plus fees) now, or $45 at the gate. Springing for VIPs – and the exclusive bathrooms – will run you $65 now or $70 at the gate. I wouldn’t suggest waiting to find out if there are tickets left on Saturday. Get them now.
We have more information on the KC Beer Fest 2017 event page.
