CORRECTION: In the original post, the date of the Hip Hops Hooray Festival was incorrect. The festival will be in August 26. Sorry for any confusion.
The Chiefs play tomorrow. School starts on Monday. (At least in my neighborhood.) Wait, what? Where did summer go?
If autumn is where things are headed, let’s do a preview of the festivals and beer events we have on our calendar. Beer prepared, after all.
Saturday, August 12 – Zona Rosa
You can try over 100 unique microbrews at the UNICO Microbrew Festival on Saturday. There will be local, regional and national breweries pouring their stuff. And homebrewers, too. It starts at 4:00 pm at Zona Rosa in KC North. Tickets are $25 plus fees and benefit the UNICO scholarship program.
Saturday, August 12 – Grinders
New Belgium clipped Clips, our favorite annual festival-ish beer event. In its place is Tour de Fat, a fashion, music, beer event happening Saturday at Grinders in the Crossroads. Atlas Genius is the musical headliner. Doors at 7:00, Fat Tire, Voodoo Ranger IPA, and Citradelic IPA will be pouring. Tickets are $15. All profits to BikeWalkKC.
Monday, August 14 – Barley’s on 119th
Minnesota’s Fulton Beer is entering the Kansas market with a launch party at Barley’s Kitchen + Taps on 119th on Monday, August 14 starting at 4:00 pm. Three of their beer will be on tap. And the local rep will be on hand to tell you all about the beer.
Saturday, August 26 – DeLeon Event Space
Woody and Abbie Bonds are organizing a craft beer, homebrew and hip hop festival on Saturday, starting at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $35 for drinkers, $10 for designated drivers. This is the first year of the Hip Hops Hooray Festival, but it certainly seems different among the many festivals around town.
Friday, August 25 thru Sunday August 27 – Screenland Armour
The craft beer part of the annual Arts & Crafts Festival is Saturday, August 26 at 6:00 at the Screenland Armour in North Kansas City. Tickets for the Beer Festival are $35 plus fees and is good for unlimited pours during the festival and access to all the live music on Saturday. Additional tickets are needed for other events, like the movies.
Saturday, September 9 – KC Live
The KC Beer Fest is back at Power & Light for the ninth year. Expect more of the same from this festival. The Flying Saucer does a good job with it. The website still lists the 2016 breweries, so we’ll have to wait to know just what beers you’ll get with your $40 ticket. VIPs ($65 ticket) get in at 2:00. Everyone else gets in at 3:00.
Saturday, September 16 – Downtown Raytown
The CBFOTLT, the longest-name festival I’ve ever encountered, is on again in Raytown. Hosted by Crane Brewing and the Raytown Kiwanis, festivities begin at noon for VIP-ticket holders and an hour later for the plebes. Not just a beer festival, the CBFOTLT also includes “distilleries, wineries, meaderies, cideries, coffee roasters, bakers, kombucha makers, tea blenders, homebrewers, music…and more!” Get your tickets now for $45 or $60.
Wo sind die Oktoberfests?
Not listed above are the annual Oktoberfest celebrations at Grünauer, KC Bier Co, Bier Station, Lee’s Summit and others. As soon as we have details and dates, we’ll have it posted on the Calendar.
