So, I ran across this on Facebook this afternoon.
After a brief email exchange with Donnie Matthews at Major Brands, the distributor who will be handling the account, we can confirm that the Brooklyn Brewery will be in Kansas City in 2017. “I don’t have a solid date, but certainly hope we can have it on the streets in KC before the fourth quarter,” he wrote. That’s news to celebrate this weekend.
If you don’t know about Brooklyn Brewery, they produce some outstanding beer, including Sorachi Ace, a saison; Black Chocolate Stout, one of the smoothest imperial stouts I’ve had; and Local 1 and Local 2, Belgian-style abbey ales.
Their brewmaster is Garrett Oliver, author of one of my favorite guides to beer and food, the Brewmaster’s Table. I reference this book very often when preparing for a beer tasting or setting up pairings for a beer dinner.
Beer of the Week
Beer Scout Brie resurrected our Beer of the Week column with a review of Double Shift Brewing’s Sister Abby. She swears the review is fair and unbiased, despite working there. I believe her, it’s a great beer.
Passion Fruit Prussia Welcomes Summer
One of my go-to beers of summer will be on Kansas City shelves next week. And not a moment too soon. Welcome summer with some Passion Fruit Prussia from 4 Hands Brewing in St Louis, a fruity and tart Berliner-style weisse.
