A Full Round for 2014

This post may not interest anyone but me. And I may lose interest at some point, but I have a goal for this site for this upcoming year to share. Over the past year, we have been posting as we can, however irregularly, mostly due to my life away from beer. I am co-owner of a small design firm and father to an almost-two-year-old. The boy has been both the original inspiration for the KC Beer Scouts and the greatest hurdle in posting regularly. Our regular meetings to review beer have been sporadic and we have all been lazy in getting those reviews posted for you to read.

A Full Round

That’s from Joe Stange, a Missouri-born writer. (You should follow him on Twitter and check out his blog if you don’t already.) I thought he perfectly and succinctly captured how I often feel about beer. While there are a few beers that I return to time and again, I love beer for the variety. I collect. And I’m not alone, as Untappd, Rate Beer, Beer Advocate and all their users would attest. So for 2014, my goal is to have a unique beer every day of the year. That said, six days in I already failed. I have now amended the goal to 360 unique beers. That leaves some wiggle room for illness and off days. Plus it leads nicely to the title, “A Full Round”. My reviews will be very shorter than usual, more like tasting notes. But I will fill out our Flavor Wave™ for each beer. And post it quickly to the site. An archive of my year’s collection will be at the bottom of this post and on the A Full Round archive page, for anyone who wants to follow along. All comments and discussion are encouraged, as always. I’d like to know if you tasted the same things that I did in each of these. And if you have suggestions for what I should try, let me know in the comments.

I began the path through good beer in college. Exploring different sixers and bombers based on packaging and label design (art student, mind you), I weaved my way around the continental lagers and Colorado craft ales. My knowledge and interest exploded upon receiving a homebrewing equipment kit as a graduation gift from my parents. Twelve years later, I've brewed most styles, experimented between them, and hunted for the perfect pint.
