All through the month of December, up to Christmas Eve, we will be doing a quick review of a seasonal beer for our own enjoyment. You might like them, too. Or maybe we can provide a quick guide to the winter or holiday beers that you haven’t tried yet. You can see all of the Decembeer 2018 list here. Unwinding… Continue reading Decembeer 9: Unwinding Winter Beer
Author: Den Mother
I am an assistant homebrewer by marriage, but a beer lover by nature. I am a new mom, so I'm easing back into the wonderful world of beer after nine months of (almost) abstaining. All that abstinence is what led to our current accumulation of beer in the cellar (basement) to begin with, so I'm looking forward to working through that stockpile with some of my closest friends! My favorite beer styles are nutty browns and Belgian dubbels, but I like anything that isn't overly bitter. I will probably not be reviewing too many west coast IPAs.

A Journey for Fall Beer Leads to Coconuts. Coconuts? – Oskar Blues Death by Coconut
The weather seems to have us frantically jumping back and forth between late summer and mid-to-late fall lately, so a little alcohol is just what the doctor ordered to soothe my sore throat from the dry air and dramatic temperature changes. (What, your doctor doesn’t prescribe beer? Maybe you need a new doctor. Just saying.) Journey for Fall I really… Continue reading A Journey for Fall Beer Leads to Coconuts. Den Mother Loves Her Big Boy from Martin City
For some reason, Beer Scout jimmywags assigned me this week to write a beer review. Surely he realized that I would be busy with other things this week. On top of the pressure-filled event of Valentine’s Day (for which I was responsible for purchasing and presenting gifts for our shared children as well as him), we also celebrated… Continue reading Den Mother Loves Her Big Boy from Martin City
The Russian I Admire Most Right Now (4 Hands Bona Fide)
This Beer of the Week review was brought to you by the vice presidential debate on Tuesday. If there was going to be weeknight drinking, it was going to be that night. On Tuesday evening, the only beers we had in the fridge were a couple different Oktoberfests, and while I love a good German-style fest bier, it just didn’t… Continue reading The Russian I Admire Most Right Now (4 Hands Bona Fide)
Boat Town Brewing: Bringing the Beers to the Bible Belt
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! My husband now has a really good reason to come with me and our two boys to visit my parents. It’s called Boat Town Brewing. To be fair, Jim has never said a negative thing about our weekend trips to Lebanon, Missouri, every few months so my parents can see our boys (apparently the arrival of… Continue reading Boat Town Brewing: Bringing the Beers to the Bible Belt
Giving Double Shift a Double Take
Jim (Beer Scout jimmywags) and I visited Double Shift Brewing when they were just a newborn brewery last year on a lovely Friday afternoon when we snuck out of work early for a happy hour date before picking the boys up from day care. To be honest, we weren’t super impressed, and we hadn’t planned to go back. No no no.… Continue reading Giving Double Shift a Double Take
Meeting Notes – August 2015 at KC Bier Co
Beer Scouts Meeting Notes: New Feature! I’ve been planning to do this for a while, but haven’t gotten around to it till now. My intention is to post a brief summary of each of our Beer Scouts meetings shortly after they occur. These will not be formal meeting minutes. After all, pretty much nothing about Beer Scouts is formal.… Continue reading Meeting Notes – August 2015 at KC Bier Co
