I know – I’m being my stereotype right now, but seriously, like, you should totally try this beer, like, it’s the best.
Alright, I’m done. I can promise you that I don’t own Ugg boots and I’ve never had a pumpkin spice latte, so rest assured, this is coming from a non-biased place. All joking aside, I would really like to put New Belgium’s Pumpkick up for all of the awards; it is the King of Autumn. This fantastic brew has been my absolute favorite before I even thought I liked beer. I remember the exact year and place when I discovered this white-girl-pumpkin beer.
Let’s go back about 4 years; I’m young, working at a liquor store to get discounts on alcohol, and very ignorant to the fact that there was more than just Keystone and Bud Light out there. A shipment of beer comes in that I have to sign for and it is in beautiful orange boxes with pumpkins. Obviously, my Autumn-loving heart flutters, so I grab a 6 pack and take it home; life became magical! I immediately went back and bought multiple cases, you read that right; cases of this beer. New Belgium knows their shit when it comes to pumpkin beer. Pumpkick is straight up spiced pumpkin pie – seriously, put some whipped cream on top – wait, no, don’t do that… or maybe do, you never know.
This medium-bodied pumpkin/yam ale, as they label it, is only available August through October, so once you get a taste you have only a couple of months to satiate your thirst. Pumpkick is the all star when it comes to Fall beers. The spice takes enough of the pumpkin so that it actually tastes like pumpkin pie and not the artificial pumpkin flavor you get from most other pumpkin beers.
I really never thought I’d write “pumpkin” this much on a beer review.
Honestly, the longest relationship I’ve had is this one; I wait (not so) patiently for months so I can get my greedy hands on Pumpkick.
New Belgium, thank you… also, send beer; I just gave you the best promo. Kidding, but not really; send beer.
