Evil Twin Lil’ B

Evil Twin Lil' B

Maybe I do like porters. I’ve always said that I don’t. Actually, I still think I don’t like them. But I have ran across some great porters lately that I enjoyed. Go figure. Lil’ B, which isn’t lil’, is the latest.

Evil Twin Lil' B

Evil Twin Lil’ B was black. Black like night, with a tan cap of foam. It smelled like espresso and toast so burnt you probably tossed it in the trash. On first sip, I was caught by its very creamy texture and initial sweetness, like milk chocolate. The chocolate subsided and a somewhat charred, astringent, bitterness took over. It wasn’t harsh and provided a nice balance to the initial sweetness. That see-saw of flavors, sweet-to-bitter in this case, is something I’ve come to appreciate as I’ve written these reviews. It a bit of action in each drink and draws me in to experience the ride again. After several rides with Lil’ B, I was noticing the booze. And touches of molasses-like spiciness in the aftertastes.

I enjoyed this full-bodied, imperial porter from Evil Twin. I didn’t expect to, which is always a pleasant surprise.

Disclaimer: I received a sample of Evil Twin Lil’ B for review purposes from the brewery. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience with this beer. I was not financially compensated to review this beer, I chose to.

I began the path through good beer in college. Exploring different sixers and bombers based on packaging and label design (art student, mind you), I weaved my way around the continental lagers and Colorado craft ales. My knowledge and interest exploded upon receiving a homebrewing equipment kit as a graduation gift from my parents. Twelve years later, I've brewed most styles, experimented between them, and hunted for the perfect pint.
